My one month old son barely sleeps?

My one month old son barely sleeps. If he does, it’s certainly not for 2-3 hours!

He comfort sucks ALOT. I breast feed him, and if I put him in his bassinet whilst he’s still sleepy, he screams. If I let him fall asleep on my breast and place him in 15-20 minutes later, he wakes up 10 minutes later crying again. The only time I can get him to sleep anywhere near 2 hours is if he falls asleep, and then I go to sleep as well, then he’ll wake to a wet nappy which is barely over an hour.

I’ve tried a shirt in the bassinet, i’ve tried putting him in his electric rocker, i’m just not sure what else to do. He’ll wake up and be very alert for hours, just gently suckling away looking up at me.

He doesn’t have bad wind, has only ever thrown up once and doesn’t get much gas.

Is this just a clingy period? I’m not sure what else to do except cradle him in my arms. I even bought a sling so I could slip him in it just to get things done ie dinner started etc.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do?

Are these playpens good for using as a bassinet/cradle?

I’m pregnant with my first baby and have been thinking of options for keeping things inexpensive by finding higher priced items that are interchangable/transforable as the baby grows. I’ve seen these playpens with the raised section for the bassinet, and with the changing table thing too. I plan on keeping the baby in our room for the first 3-6 months at least in a bassinet. I wondered if anyone just got one of these instead of using an exclusive bassinet? I want this because it’s so versitle but I want what is best for the baby overall.
